Where the record fails, the local press is the only sensor left — and that is what this radar systematises: where mining happens, and what the society around it is saying about it.

Royalties, export restrictions, critical minerals, changes of government.
Thousands of queries across many languages and regional editions, run
continuously. Each article is classified by commodity, theme and tone, and
located against a closed list of known mining places.
When the place is not recognised, the article stays off the map —
the system does not estimate coordinates. Every point declares its own level
of precision: mine, municipality, region or country. A country point is an
aggregate, and is drawn as one.

How to read this: the radar records press mentions, with the
publisher, the date and a link to the source. It makes no claims of its own
about companies or people. Locations are approximate and reflect the place
named in the article, which is not always the place of the deposit.
