Using processed resource and reserve data (Agterberg, 2017), we analyse the statistical distribution of deposit sizes — revealing that mineral resources follow a power law, not a normal distribution.
Key insight: For gold and silver, the top 2% of deposits contain over 83% of total metal. Discovering one super-giant is exponentially more valuable than finding multiple small deposits.
